Technology can be a powerful tool for empowering student learning through assistive technologies:
Speech-to-Text: Many applications (ex. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and OneNote) are embedded with robust speech-to-text tools which allow students to dictate their responses and then review and edit them within the software and its embedded spell-check system. This tool can support all students and can be especially powerful for students that struggle with writing, the fine motor skills for typing, and/or other learning difficulties. For example, Speech-to-text can empower students with dyslexia and/or dysgraphia to independently complete a writing assignment.
Mindfulness Toolkit: The MyLife app is free to teachers and offers guided mindfulness exercises. This tool could be leveraged as a socio-emotional support for students working on self-regulation in the classroom to help them identify their emotions and utilize a personalized toolkit of self-regulation techniques to independently reset and rejoin the class routine: https://my.life/
